For A Friend ( I couldn't resist it!).

Let us be lovers well marry our fortunes together
Ive got some real estate here in my bag
So we bought a pack of cigarettes and Mrs. Wagner pies
And we walked off to look for America
Kathy, I said as we boarded a greyhound in Pittsburgh
Michigan seems like a dream to me now
It took me four days to hitchhike from Saginaw
Ive gone to look for America

Laughing on the bus
Playing games with the faces
She said the man in the gabardine suit was a spy
I said be careful his bowtie is really a camera

Toss me a cigarette, I think theres one in my raincoat
We smoked the last one an hour ago
So I looked at the scenery, she read her magazine
And the moon rose over an open field

Kathy, Im lost, I said, though I knew she was sleeping
Im empty and aching and I dont know why
Counting the cars on the New Jersey Turnpike
Theyve all gone to look for America
All gone to look for America
All gone to look for America

I know that one. :p

The NJ turnpike is a graveyard of industrialisim. If you've seen the Soprano's opening credits you've seen the turnpike. Potholed wired and rusted.

But that's a great song.

Eva,

Surely you mean the "New Joisey Turnpike" ? Yes - I know it well. Newark Airport, Secaucus and Meadowlands all spring to mind (I used to wonder where the Wrens got their album titles from).

This is the British version by "Yes" of course. You can tell by the middle class accents.

Guess I'll have to return to the States before too long but this time I have Chicago in mind (New Orleans has been postponed).

Ahhh...."Stuck inside of Mobile with the Memphis blues again".

Great post M.
I like your comment where you said "Joisey"
"The mosquito is the state bird of New Jerseyā€¯

Hi Mistakes (is that what I call you ?) Of course we all know about New Joisey because we were all great fans of Bruce Springsteen !

Are you serious about the mosquito ?

Funnily enough I was reading your post about Heartbreak earlier today.

I'll call by when I get the chance and - maybe - tell you what I think.

I HATE BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN.

Even if he comes from NJ. I like almost any music, really, but I just cannot stand him. But I Luurve Stevie van Zandt in Sopranos. So, that balances it out.

Never been to Chicago. When I travel the US I tend to go way from the cities. New Orleans was on my list too though. I'll wait. (Acadia Maine, Duck NC, such like that)

I want to do a southern BBQ road trip in a soft top jeep. There are two schools of thought on BBQ, and I need to decide which one I prefer. I figure I'll start in the Carolinas and end in Texas. Might take me a few months.

When you head to Chicago first stop in NY and have a brick oven pizza, NY style, then have the deep dish in Chicago and tell us which you prefer.

I almost agree with you about Brucie with the exception of the last 3 tracks on "The Wild, The Innocent and the E Street Shuffle " and maybe "Thunder Road".

Now Miami Steve is a different ballgame altogether. "Men Without Women" is one of the greatest albums of all time and he had that amazing 7 foot tall, black, pink-haired bass guitarist with him.

Bugger....I'm going to have to dig that out of my collection now !

By the way...what are the two schools of thought on BBQ ?

I believe they are tomato based sauces and vinegar sauces. The split is as argument inducing as Democrats vs Republicans, Apple vs Windows and Catholic vs Protestant.

Like I said, I believe after copious amounts of both I may be able to come to some sort of conclusion.

I'm pretty sure I'd be a tomato based kind of guy. Meat marinated in tomato, chilli and garlic is my idea of heaven ( as far as food is concerned).

Sounds like you should head to Texas then. :)

Texas huh ? Could be interesting.

Every now and then I take a peek at the "Over-Educated Nympho" blog.
I think she's in Houston.

I could combine business with pleasure !
